My first job was working the storefront at a Tim Horton’s at 16 years old. I quickly learned many lessons about the working world including attention to detail and the value of a dollar.
When I was 19 years old, I travelled with my family to Dublin, Ireland for the celebration of my grandmother’s birthday. She was one of nine siblings born in Dublin, and, for her birthday, they and their families came together to celebrate. It was incredible for me to see the lineage of my family and to meet so many of my Irish aunts, uncles and cousins.
During my time in college, two of my favorite classes were early childhood education classes. As part of these classes, I was able to sit in on a three-year-old and a kindergarten classroom to observe the way that the curriculums were prepared and how children interacted in that environment. I was blown away by the amount of thought and effort that went into creatively teaching young children useful skills including coping with the separation anxiety of leaving a parent for an entire day.
